Employee Highlight: Meet Sam Poat
Where did you grow up and go to school?
My hometown is Modesto, in sunny California. In the summer, I enjoyed helping my uncle on his almond farm. Working long hours in all kinds of weather gave me the experience I needed for my job today.
What other jobs have you had before Bethany Associates?
I briefly worked for a paper and janitorial supply company and as a medical assistant in a hospital in Hammonton, NJ. My longest previous job was four years at Peter Lumber Company, also located in Hammonton.
What skills have you learned from previous employment?
At the paper company I learned the value of hard physical work since there were no forklifts. Everything had to be carried by hand. At the hospital I learned to work under stressful situations. Multi-tasking, transcribing doctor’s handwritten orders and catching up on the endless paperwork kept me on my toes! The lumber company taught me to be faithful to a job, day in and day out.
How long have you been employed with Bethany Associates?
I’m going on my 17th year.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Ninety-nine percent of my job is washing windows for our commercial storefront customers. So we head out to our first job around 7 a. m. and don’t stop till we finish! At the end of each day I schedule jobs and wrap-up paperwork.
How do you meet your customers’ needs?
A lot of customers don’t have the time to clean their commercial storefront. They are very busy managing their store and seeing to their own customer’s needs. I take some pressure off their day by making sure their windows look their best.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Doing a good job and making an establishment look great before we leave.
Tell us about your family and what you will do for vacation this year.
I have a lovely wife and four great kids. We hope to vacation in upstate New York this year at a nice small cottage on a large pond. One of our favorite parks is in the area. Treman State Park (pictured below) is in New York’s Finger Lakes region and has many beautiful waterfalls and rock formations.
